3105 Park Entrance

I presume that this gateway was part of the ruined Leicester Abbey, while now it is one of many entrances to Abbey Park.

3005 African Groceries

One of the advantages in living in this city is that you can get hold of almost anything! These items were on display at the Afro Supermarket, opposite St Margaret's Bus Station. I hope all that palm oil was ethically sourced.

2905 Evening in the Suburbs

For all sorts of reasons, this wasn't a day that lent itself to photography, and I'm really scraping the barrel here!

2805 Turned Out Nice Again

Here we are at the end of May, and in England we're having the same kind of relentlessly rainy days that we had in the winter. That's how an ordinary length of pavement can become a lake!

2605 Gone to Seed

I was a bit surprised to realise that there were dandelion clocks in a professionally managed formal garden. Ah, well, at least I'm not alone, then.

2505 Drum Solo

I'm not sure I know what the point was of having someone playing the drums through very loud amplification in Leicester City Centre, on a Sunday, too! Even my dog wanted to walk on very quickly. It was mad in there today as it often is on a weekday, although it was a Bank Holiday weekend.

2105 The First Rose of Summer

At least, this was the first rose that I had At least, this was the first rose that I had seen this year, and I noticed it because it was unusually fragrant.

2005 Vicious Little Dog

This little fella could pack one heck of a snarl and a growl, aimed, of course, at my guide dog. I'm only glad my guide dog didn't react. You can feel a bit vulnerable waiting on an island in the middle of the road, but my dog didn't cause me any problems.

1805 Summer Arrives in the Park

Summer has definitely arrived, with unbroken sunshine and temperatures that must have been in the upper 70s F. I-spy an ice-cream van, sunbathers and a game of cricket.

1405 Golden Hour Trees

By golden hour, I mean the hour before sunset, roughly, when you are likely to be treated to some lovely rich colours. Same applies to the hour after the sunrise. This was nearly sunset.

0705 Changing the Lock

These good people were preparing to leave the Grand Union Canal and take their narrow-boat on to the River Soar. To achieve this, the lock assists in changing the water level.

0505 Bank Holiday Cyclists

One of the most popular activities in these parts. Two cyclists on a riverside path during today's public holiday.

Sunday 4 May 2014

0405 Leaves and Shadows

I don't honestly know what I was trying to do here, but I find the result strangely pleasing.

Saturday 3 May 2014

0305 Lazy Afternoon

The riverside is often a bustling place, but on this sunny Saturday afternoon, it was strangely subdued.

Friday 2 May 2014

0205 Pink Flowers

As usual, I'm up against my lamentable knowledge of botany, and cannot identify these flowers, but was not going to be put off including them (whatever they are!). Most flowers blooming before this have so far been yellow, blue or purple. I don't know whether this is significant in any way, though I know those colours are favourites for bees and other insects.

0105 Street at Dusk

It was a pretty rubbishy day for photography today, and this is about the best I could come up with. Will make up for it later.
