The 999 Call for the NHS March was started by a group of women from Darlington who are concerned about the government's intentions to further privatise the National Health Service in the UK.
Yesterday, they marched from Loughborough to Leicester, and today they started from Leicester Cathedral and were heading for Market Harborough. Every good wish goes to them.
I have put a slideshow with many more photos on Youtube.

3008 Reluctant Rainbow
What you see here is all there was of that rainbow. Taken alongside the National Space Centre, Leicester.

2708 Ugly Ducklings
These cygnets are getting much more like their parents. They look more like swans, and they let me know how well they could hiss when I rounded the corner neear them.

2408 Skyride 2014
Bicycles everywhere! It's that time of year again, the weekend before August Bank Holiday, when everyone is urged to get on their bikes, though I'm not so sure disabled people are enocouraged to take part. This photo is a mere detail of hundreds of cyclists who whizzed past me today.

2308 Birds in a Lather
Ducks, gulls, pigeons.... all assembled and ready to scrap over today's offering of white bread from the riverbank.

2108 Snipers' Alley
Alongside Leicester Market, this was at one time a place where you were likely to be leapt on by aggressive beggars. That seems to have changed.

1608 Considerate Parker
This is calculated to make a blind person's hair turn bright pink. How are you supposed to get around it? Why, go and walk on the road and play with the traffic, of course. I would phone the firm that owns this vehicle if it were not for the rip-off 0844 phone number.

I took this through a pair of amber sunglasses, the likes of which are sometimes recommended for some people with macular degeneration. The idea is that they will block damaging blue light. They are a bit on the dark side, and this photo is a pretty faithful reproduction, but they can cut down glare on very bright days.

1408 The Lone Coot
Even if I can't readily see a bird as small as this from that distance, I could certainly hear its shrieks.

1308 The Lavender Maze
One unusual feature of Abbey Park, Leicester is this lavender maze, evidently dreamt up over a few glasses in the pub.
This was meant to be a soft play area for children, but I daresay many adults will enjoy it too.
I made a slideshow of photos I took here. Please go to

to watch it.

1208 Mind How You Drive
All the vehicles were travelling at quite high speeds for a junction like this, and I was half-expecting someone to come to grief. Luckily, everyone must have been very alert.

1108 Overhanging Trees
The subject matter may not be remarkable, but I like the geometry of the trees and the clouds in this.
0508 An Invasion of Gulls
The gulls are not around all the time, but now and then cause a great deal of commotion on the river.
0208 'Allo! 'Allo!
It's amazing how many of us are becoming cyborgs, welded to our various machines. Aren't I welded to my camera?

2507 Watermead Way Bridge
Above, the relentless traffic, underneath an apparently tranquil scene with a path along the river near Watermead Park, Leicester.
2407 Going to the Fair
Every school holiday, the same funfair appears in my local park whether anyone wants it or not! These people are near its entrance.
